What's Going On In Central New York

December 26th, 2007

I love the humor in this great winter photo by Gene Seliger. It was taken at a bird sanctuary in Syracuse that we visited earlier this year.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday yesterday. I received the most amazing surprise from Gene that I had to share. We saw this crazy quilt at an estate sale back in March, but at that time the family was undecided whether they wanted to sell it or not. What I didn't know was that Gene went back to the house the next day, gave them his business card and told them if they ever decided to sell it to call him. They called him 5 weeks later and the quilt had been under my sister's bed until Christmas eve!

Not too much was known about quilt as it was not made by the woman whose estate was being sold. It was a gift for her and the family had it framed when they presented it to her. The hand stitching on this quilt, the arrangement of blocks and the colors are fabulous. My favorite block is the elephant which is stuffed so it raised up from the quilt surface. There is even the "Lord is My Shepherd" verse printed on what looks to be silk. Every time I look at it I see something that I hadn't noticed before. I will be inspired for the rest of my life.
