What's Going On In Central New York
June 16th, 2008
It may not officially be "summer" yet but it feels like it here. Lots of wonderful plants blooming and we've had some record heat too. We've just harvested the last of the lettuce and spinach. We'll be planting another batch of both in mid-August for fall harvesting. It's been busy here getting everything else planted for the summer; onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, yellow squash, green beans, and eggplant. If you are in the process of doing your summer garden, consider putting in extra plants. Then donate your surplus crops to your local food bank or church pantry. Most food distribution facilities need all the help they can get and they will appreciate fresh veggies and fruits! |

We're trying something new this year; another step on our eco-friendly journey. We've installed two barrels to collect rain water off the roof. They are made from recycled pickle shipping containers so a second life for something that might normally end up in a landfill. They've been set up for over a month now and so far we've haven't had to turn on the regular hose yet! The barrels hold 67 gallons each and we've been fortunate enough to have perfectly timed showers whenever the barrels have gotten low. Visit us often as we add more summer news, plus there will be an important announcement coming soon about our eco-friendly direction.... |
I hope that you have a wonderful, safe summer.
Peace to All,
Mary Z |
